RDS (Room Data Sheets) are used to capture the information and requirements of every space in a construction. They are typically created by the client during the briefing (also known as architectural programming in the US) phase of the design process, however, they could also be updated during the design process to reflect changing requirements, or to provide a more complete and clearer view for those in charge of the project’s delivery.

The Room Data Sheets SmartTool allows users to create room (or space), data sheets using a Revit project. It is a fast and accurate tool that can be used for sheets, elevations and schedule views. The tool is able to generate 3D plans elevations, plans, and schedule views of rooms or spaces.

The tool will default to the Room Numbering Template and Sheet Format that are defined by the Revit Project. However, you can select a different sheet style and name by clicking the Tool Options http://www.searchstreams.info/what-is-an-alternate-data-stream/ tab. You can also click ‘Load Config’ …’ on the toolbar to load previously saved configurations that will replace the current settings. This can reduce the amount of manual work required for each room or space size and type.

The tab ‘Naming’ allows users to choose whether the selected room/space is included in the Sheet Name text box which is located on the left of the screen. « View Name » is the text that appears in the title bar for each view, while the ‘View Increment’ option specifies the increment of numbers between each view after it is placed on the sheet. The option ‘Spacing’ can be set to control the space between each view on the sheet and’Exclude View Titles in Estimating View Sizes on Sheets’ option will stop titles from being included when determining the number of views that will fit on a page.
